19 sept. 1781 - Surrender of General Cornwallis at Yorktown
Description:
The Battle of Yorktown pinned 17000 French and American troops led by George Washington against 9000 British troops commanded by General Cornwallis. This battle was paramount to the Revolution as it was the one that marked the end of it. The British were completely outnumbered which became evident after 5000 troops were able to stop General Cornwallis by escaping on land and a navy to halt the escape by sea. The redcoats were destined to defeat so General Cornwallis surrendered before all his troops could die. 2 years late the Treaty of Paris was signed which officially put an end to the American revolution.
