1 janv. 1928 - Alexander Fleming: Penicillin

Description:

Alexander Fleming had worked on wounds and infections during World War 1 and spent years researching the body's natural defences against infection.
In 1928, after returning from holiday he found a mould growing on an old culture dish of bacteria he had discarded, and noticed that the mould was killing the germs. He identified the fungus as penicillium and discovered that it produced a substance that killed germs, given the name penicillin.
Fleming published his findings in articles between 1929 and 1931; however, no one was willing to fund further research, so he was unable to take his work further. The industrial production of penicillin still needed to be developed.
