20 avr. 1792 - The Legislative Assembly declares war on Austria

Description:

Leopold II of Austria (Marie Antoinette's brother) and Frederick William II of Prussia had issued the Declaration of Pilnitz, warning that there would be severe consequences if the revolutionaries were to harm the royal family. This enraged the National Assembly, which consisted mainly of Jacobins, into a nationalistic frenzy to wage a "war of liberation" against Austria.
This caused the War of the First Coalition, which lasted from 1792 to 1797 and hurt economic power in France for years.
