Description:
The Bastille was a royal fortress used as a prison, guarded by 30 Swiss mercenaries and 80 retired soldiers. A mob stormed the prison in order to get the gunpowder and munitions stored inside for the "defense of Paris".This event was directly caused Louis XVI to be executed since it gained support for the rebellion.
