Description:
After a hot summer in 1858, the river Thames created a very unpleasant smell because of all the refuse and excrement. The Houses of Parliament on the Thames was forced to take action, investing in a new sewage system, which opened in 1865. In 1866, Joseph Bazalgette built new sewers in London to take away the increasing amount of human waste.
