1 janv. 1470 - Printing Press
Description:
The printing press was invented by Gutenburg around 1440, and became commonplace in England in the 1470s. It was extremely beneficial to medicine as it enabled information to be spread accurately and quickly. Books and other texts no longer had to be copied by hand, meaning there were fewer mistakes and inconsistencies, and books could be published en masse a lot faster (especially for universities).
Before the press, books were copied by hand by monks under the Church, meaning publicised ideas would align with their religious views. The press took copying out of the hands of the Church, allowing a much wider variety of subjects to be written about and stopping the Church from preventing the spread of opposing ideas, such as more humanist approaches to medicine.
