Description:

-white and African American delegates gathered at the Mechanics Institute to develop a new state constitution.
-John T. Monroe (Former New Orleans mayor, vocal white supremacist) led white men in a mob (including city police+ex-Confederate soldiers). They attacked the convention of unarmed delegates.
-238 ppl dead (40 delegates to the convention, 200 black union veterans)

Result: northern outrage, contributed to a more strongly republican congress in November who had a military Reconstruction on the South
