1 janv. 1952 - Chuck Berry
Description:
Chuck Berry is often called the Father of Rock of Roll because he was the first to epitomize the true sound of rock. He most importantly wrote and performed his own music.
His success came solely rom singles, which was extremely common at the time. He had great crossover appeal, and wrote relaxed and conversational songs that appealed to wide audiences. He was a black man that did songs in a white style, and was a perfect combo of blues and country.
His song, “Johnny B Goode” (1958) was supposedly about written about Elvis, and is Rolling Stone’s #1 guitar song of all time. However, Chuck Berry’s only #1 single was Dave Bartholomew's “my ding a ling” 1972.
Berry is also famous for spending a lot of time in prison. He was first sent to jail for armed robbery when he was in high school, then again
for breaking the Mann Act and transporting a girl across state lines and went back to jail for income tax evasion in the 80s. Berry would write his best selling auto biography in jail.
