Description:

After pro-Crusader Byzantine Emperor Alexios IV Angelos is deposed, he offers to send military aid and transport in the crusade and help pay off Crusaders' debt to Venice, if they helped re-install him as emperor. They agree and accomplished this, but Alexios went back on his word. The Venetian and French crusaders begin a siege of Constantinople and sack the city in 1204, destroying Byzantine hegemony. In the Partition of the Empire, Venice gained strategic territories in the Aegean Sea, including Crete and Euboea.
