It was a tax imposed on the colonist by Britain. It was a tax for printed documents that were usually sold. Only really affected upper class people who would have to buy stamps to put on their printed documents so they could be sold. Even though only affected some people colonists were upset because they didn't like taxation in general. This was an important event because it was a major cause of increase in tensions between the colonists and Britain.
