Description:
People of Rome flooded the streets to greet Allied troops. They were celebrating the liberation of Rome from German occupation. Shops and workplaces were closed for the day, the victory in Monte Cassino was extremely important because Rome gave their allies airfields and extensive road and rail networks. Rome had been under German occupation for nine months.
