Around 1054, the Christian Church split into West and East halves, with the Eastern half becoming the Orthodox Church, and the Western becoming the Catholic Church.The Catholic Church was Latin-speaking, encompassed Rome, and covered most of modern-day Europe.
However, the Orthodox Church was Greek-speaking, encompassed most of the remaining powerful cities, like Constantinople, Jerusalem, and Alexandria, and covered the Eastern-most parts of Europe and some of Asia.
