Description:

Boston Tea party, (December 16,1773) was an incident in which 342 chests of tea belonging to the British east India company were thrown from ships into Boston Harbor by American patriots disguised as Mohawk Indians. The Americans were protesting both a tax on tea (taxation without representation). 342 chests of British India company tea weighing over 92000 pounds (roughly 128,507,59 US dollars.) The British government soon imposed several new laws that were meant to punish the colonists. One of the new laws closed Boston Harbor until the colonists paid for the tea that was ruined. Although the new laws were aimed at Massachusetts, they made the colonies want to work together to end British rule.
