- Nicholas replaces Grand Duke Nilolaevich in August 1915 as Supreme Commander - in - Chief of the Russian Army- Nicholas leaves his wife Tsar Alexandra in charge of the government
- Tsar was seen as abandoning Russia in its time of need
- His wife wasn’t trusted because she was German
- This also meant that by extension Rusputin was now in charge
