The Railroad Strike of 1877, was a series of violent rail strikes across the United States . During this year the county was in the 4th year of a prolonged economic depression after the panic of 1873. The strikes were precipitated by wage cuts brought by the Baltimore and Ohio railroad. More than 100,00 workers participated. In the end the strike accomplished very little, some national politicians talked of labour reforms, but nothing was dressed and changed. During this time industrialist continued with cutting wages and break unions.
