Description:
Iwo Jima a small island off the coast of Tokyo which was believed to be taken in 4 days but the Japanese had dug tunnels and other heavy defenses. It took a month for it to be taken, 5,883 deaths and 23,573 wounded on the American side. Over 23,000 casualties for the Japanese and only 200 surrendered.
