13 nov 1860 - Election of 1860

Description:

The Election of 1860 was not only a race between Lincoln and three other candidates, but a battle between the North and the South, already divided over their opposing beliefs pertaining to the issue of Slavery. This was significant for being one of the main causes of the Civil War considering the short term effects. Shortly after Lincoln's victory, the defeated South felt they no longer had a voice in the government. With this belief, they seceded from the Union and formed the Confederate States of America. The Election of 1860 was a direct cause of the Civil War because it finalized the Union and the Confederate States as opposing groups which led to Battle. This can also relate to the Battle of Fort Sumter because it influenced its occurrence and would not have occurred had the Southern States not seceded.
