Description:
• The Soviet Union and Cuba were angered atthe blockade
• Khrushchev saw the blockade as an illegal act of war
• Soviet forces in Cuba were placed on high alert and secret instructions were given to use nuclear missiles if the US forces invade Cuba
• Castro also mobilised the Cuban army and declared to die fighting
• The world was on the brink of a full-scale nuclear war
