The Compromise of 1877 was a compromise that gave Rutherford B. Hayes presidency in exchange for the end of reconstruction in the south. The compromise also guaranteed the right to vote in the south, where Northerners and Southerners needed to let the African Americans vote. The compromise is important because it entered in a new president as well as put an end to southern reconstruction.
