The assassination of Lincoln was affecting the United States greatly. Besides the fact that Lincoln was a great president and the people loved him, his assassination also affected the U.S. because Andrew Johnson became president afterwards. Johnson was a white supremacist whose best interest was not in the people. Lincoln’s ideas on reconstruction were not fulfilled before his death.
