15 sept. 1780 - Skirmish at McGill's Plantation

Description:

Maj. James Wemyss, in unlimited warfare on the Patriot civilian population, cut a broad path of descruction in his march from Kingstree to Cheraw. He ordered the descruction of anythging civilians could use to sustain themselve and Patriots by burning or destroying looms, mills, or any similiar business. Also killed cows, sheep, and any animal used for food or clothing. Patriot Maj John James militia fired on some of Wemyss' men at McGill's Plantation which this action seemed to further enrage the British and Loyalist.
