Description:

Among Alexander's 4 generals, Seleucus, who started the Seleucid Dynasty in Syria, took control of Judea. While it initially granted the Jews religious freedom, it was taken away when Antioch IV ascended the throne. He forced the Jews to accept Greek philosophy and ideas, even setting up Zeus in God's temple. This governance led the Jews to rebellion and Maccabees was able to train and resistance army to recapture Jersualem in 165 BC. This event became the Feast of Dedication.
