He then used the whiskey to enlist 150 "whiskey loving" Irishmen. They mounted and began moving to met Thomas Sumter at Fishdam Ford. At Jenkin's Crossroad, they met a British patrol from Winnsboro. Their drunken rabble rousing scared the British off. Once Lacey regained control taking a secondary route to met with Sumter at Fishdam Ford. When Lacey's men arrived at Sumter's camp and began dismounting in a most drunken manner still swigging their whiskey.
