26 févr. 1781 - Skirmish at Dickey's Farm

Description:

After the Loyalist defeat at Haw River, Brig Gen Pickens assigned Maj Micajah Lewis with a group of North Carolina militia as a rear guard at the ford of a stream near Dickey's Farm. In the dark, Lewis heard men on the road apporach so he went out to hail them. He dismounted telling them to meet him half way. It was the British, they opened fire hitting Lewis' horse and breaking his leg with a musket shot. His men rush out to recover him, taking him to Dickey's House but his men moved three miles away because of the unknown enemy. Maj Lewis died the next day at Dickey's home.
