Description:

British Gen Augustine Pre'vost while enroute form Savannah to Charles Town passed near the Prince William's Parish Sheldon Church. It is believed Pre'vost burned the church because it was used as a Patriot Headquarters by Gen Benjamin Lincoln during the spring of 1779 and the seat of the powerful Bull family also Patriots. Anglican (Espiscopal) churches belonged to the King so they were not destroyed unless used by the Patriots for military purposes.
