1 janv. 1861 - American Civil War

Description:

The civil war between the northern and southern states of the US stemed primarily from policies and attitudes regarding slavery. The south had a large population of enslaved people in order to support their plantations, which were a major part of their livelihood and economy while the northern states had become more industrialized and less dependent upon agriculture and the trading of crops to survive. When borders were put on slavery, the south feared that their way of life would be changed and that the practice of slavery would be eradicated. The tensions between the north and south eventually led to the bloodiest war in American history and the abolition of slavery. Ultimately, this war shaped the history of America in a crucial way. It allowed everyone to see just how far the people of America would go to fight for their beliefs but also showed the consequences of war in the place of diplomacy.
