1. He contributed to the understanding of the atom because he hypothesized the law of conservation of mass and of definite proportions could be explained from using the idea of atoms.2. One of the most important experiments that he performed had to do with gasses. From there, he was able to discover that the total pressure of a mixture of gasses was equal to the total of the partial pressures of each individual gas. This was important because he made him realize that every form of matter is made up of small particles.
