The people of New Ulm hear about the attacks and build a barricade in the middle of the town. Almost 100 Dakota soldiers attack New Ulm at around 3:00 pm and after practically two hours of ferocious fighting the Dakota stopped fighting because relentless rain. When St. Paul heard of the fights ,the mayor sent Henry Sibley and others to go chase down the Dakota.
