As a rememberance day, Jan 26th, 1930 is celebrated as a republic day as Nehru hoisted new tri color flag on the banks of river Ravi at Lahore.

This happened on Lahore Session when Jawaharlal Nehru was the president of INC.

Jawaharlal Nehru convinced Gandhi and Motilal Nehru(who favoured the dominion status) for the demand of Purna Swaraj as INC would loose its support to the extremists/radicals ( headed bySubhash Bose) due to the rising popularity of Bhagat Singh.
