31 janv. 1962 - Operation Ranch Hand

Description:

Agent Orange, a chemical herbicide, was used by the US in order to clear the South Vietnam of its heavy vegetation. This was in hopes of pushing the communists to move away from guerrilla tactics and instead use conventional warfare. The greater significance of removing millions of acres of vegetation, was found in the way that President Kennedy perceived it. He figured that developed countries, like the US or Britain, had cities for economic and political growth, something South Vietnam was heavily lacking. With the clearance of this vegetation, cities and new developments could be constructed in order to begin the advancement of South Vietnam.
