The technology of WWI went from 1914-1918. Many countries or territories took advantage of this opportunity to grow technologically. (British) The first tank, British Mark II, was designed in 1915 but not used until September of 1916. The French followed this pursuit and made the Renault FT. (Germans) The most famous and firstly introduced weapons was the machine gun. Originally invented by an American, Hiram Maxim, German's stole the idea because they saw military potential. The Germans made the American designed machine gun lighter for land mobility and air-cooled for airplanes. The machine gun was greatly underestimated and proved deadly when German machine guns killed and injured 60,000 English soldiers in one day in Somme. (Germans) Germany also had the first use of chemical weapons. They used poison gas, but the gas would run out and take a while to rebuild. People used poison gas to counter this, but the Germans made a gas to killed gas masks. One of the gases was mustard gas, and this gas was went out to kill people and make them suffer. By making them suffer, it left large blisters and exposed skin to the lungs.
