In early September Sibley tries to negotiate with Little Crow. Little Crow explains the reasons for the war and states that he will release prisoners. Sibley then demands surrender but Little Crow refuses. On September 23 a group of us soldiers searching for food finds a group of Dakota who had been planning to attack them and defeated them. Wood Lake was the last major battle of the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862.
