The North West Mounted Police (NWMP) was made in Ottawa in 1873 by John A. MacDonald. The NWMP was protecting the North West Territories and Rupert’s Land from doing illegal stuff like whiskey trades. NWMP helps some natives like the Blackfoot but some natives think that the NWMP is not helping them but controlling the people in Rupert’s Land and putting some kids into residential schools.The NWMP is important to Canada’s History because they stop people from doing illegal stuff and the NWMP which is now the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and these police officers are the reason we are safe.
