1 janv. 1934 - The Dust Bowl (1934) - Eco

Description:

The dust bowl is the drought period in the Great plains and Southeastern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan, that occurred in 1934, 1936 and 1939. The land was already damaged in the 1920s due to over-cultivation and poor land management, and the severe drought added to that. Topsoil that became dry would be carried in the wind, resulting in dust storms. Many families were forced to leave the dust bowl, many becoming homeless. Songs were made such as “Dust Bowl Refugee”, as well as books such as “the grapes of wrath”. It also affected agriculture. This drought really affected the economy in terms of agriculture. In the 1930 a lot busted, including the economy. This event helped Canada realize that the soils were not being taken care of as well as it should be. So Canada later encouraged methods to protect the soil and ecology of Canada.
