6 août 1965 - Voting Rights Act

Description:

The act was signed into law by President Lyndon Jhonson August 6, 1965. This act outlawed the discriminatory voting practices that were adopted by some souther states thanks to the Civil War. In the past years before this was signed African Americans had been facing discriminations and obstacles when it came to voting. Making them face other challenges such as physical harm, harassment, intimidation and more if they tried to do this act. During 1964 the amount of violence acts that occured such as murder of voting-rights activists in Mississippi and the attack by white state troopers on peaceful marchers in Selma, Alabama brought attention and made the Congress and the President Jhonson to initiate movement for a change.
