The 22nd of August 1700, Captain Cook (the captain of the HMB Endeavour) proclaimed eastern Australia for the British chaplet (which is another word for crown) during 1700, as he named it New South Wales (NSW).Captain Cook wrote in his journal: "so far as we know [it] doth not produce any one thing that can become an Article in trade to invite the Europeans to fix a settlement upon it".
After eighteen years passed, the First Fleet appeared and started a penal colony in Botany Bay.
