Description:
As the Arabs secure the conquered territory West of the Euphrates River after battle of Firaz, the Sassanids choose to retreat and concentrate their troops to give them a decisive edge against the Arabs. When about 35,000 Arabs decided to cross the Euphrates they met about 60,000 Sassanids army with thousands of Persian cavalry, Kavad II hope it could defeat the Arabs and even restore the border that before Arab invasion. However, rather than crushing the Arab armies the Persian cavalry was surrounded and destroyed. Such a major defeat and significant big loss of Aswaran, the best of best Army in Sassanid, forced Kavad II decided to not only withdrew from the field but also withdrew from Mesopotamia, and took raiding strategy in this region toward Arabs.
