17 janv. 1961 - Patrice Lumumba Assassinated
Description:
Patrice Lumumba, president of the Republic of the Congo, is assassinated likely with the aid of the CIA and certainly with the aid of former Belgian colonial administrators. Lumumba's assassination is a good example of early neocolonialism, where covert operations and economic coercion are used to maintain the status quo of economic exploitation in former colonies, even if they are de jure independent polities.
