-Nathaniel Bacon was a gentleman farmer (not a lot of money)
-led a rebellion of western farmers (many former indentured servants) against Governor William Berkeley because he wasn't defending against attacks from Natives
-Bacon dies and rebellion collapses
-Highlighted problems in Virginia:
- Class distinctions starting to be evident
- Colonial resistance to the crown
- Should we keep using indentured
servants or move to chattel slavery?
