22 août 1789 - FRANCE: the great fear (late summer)

Description:

aristocrats feel threatened so they try to convince King to get tough with crowd. many leave France in fear that masses will kill them. peasants are in fear that monarchs will attack them. by August, they were attacking big castels and burning feudal records that tied them to aristocrats. parliament responded by calling a special session and officially ended feudalism. this calmed the peasants and opened door for it to become a modern nation-state.
