Description:
Alexander II, the son of Nicholas I is assassinated. He was the Emperor of Russia, King of Congress Poland, and Grand Duke of Finland. He reformed Russia through the emancipation of the Serfs in Tibet. He was killed in St. Petersberg by an explosion from a grenade thrown by a People's Will revolutionary group. The terrorist group worked to overthrow the Russian czarist autocracy. Alexander III succeeded his father and hanged the assassins while suppressing the People's Will group. Eventually the peasant revolution that the People's Will envisioned came to fruition in 1917 with Vladimir Lenin's Bolshevik Revolution.
