Description:
-allowed gov't. to forcibly expel foreigners and jail newspaper editors for "scandalous and malicious writing"
-aimed to destroy new immigrants especially French immigrants
-clear violation of the first amendment
-lengthened the lime it took for immigrants to become citizens from 5 to 15 years (also lengthened time they could vote)
-allowed the president to deport any "dangerous aliens"
-Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions argued that the states had the right to judge the constitutionality of federal laws, exercised the authority of nullification, declared the Alien and Sedition acts void
