With US threatened by a hostile communist country so close to the mainland United States, President John F. Kennedy drafted a plan for an invasion a rebel invasion of Cuba. However, before the invasion, JFK scaled back American support and as a result, the invasion failed. This event is significant because the failed invasion solidified Castro’s government and allowed for the Soviet Union to support Castro.
