7 mai 1954 - 13. France withdraws from Vietnam

Description:

May 7th, 1954

After World War II, France set on a path of reclaiming their colonies, like Vietnam. However, a group of communist Vietnamese people, under the leadership of Ho Chi Minh, wanted independence and so France was dragged into a fight for control. After the defeat of Dien Bien Phu, the French were forced to accept defeat and pull out of Vietnam. This event is significant because it is a huge reason for the United States’ involvement in Vietnam as the United States got more involved after France had left.
