April 4th, 1949With the United States getting more involved in European affairs and many European countries fearing their sovereignty, The United States, France, the United Kingdom, and nine other European countries founded a peacetime military alliance called The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). This event is significant because it unified Western nations against the Soviet Union and Soviet-controlled regions.
