30 déc. 1664 - Robert Hooke: Discovery of Cells

Description:

Robert Hooke made the first description of cells, in his book Micrographia. He made a thin slice of cork from the base of a tree which he then examined under a homemade microscope. The bark was made up of hundred of little 'empty boxes' which made it look like honeycomb. He gave the boxes the name of cells. These cells that he observed were already dead, but when he looked at living plant tissue and saw water in the cells.
