Description:

The Battle of Cowpens was fought near the town of Cowpens, South Carolina on January 17, 1781. The skirmish took place between the British forces and the American troops under the command of General Nathanael Greene.

This conflict was important to the Revolutionary war for quite a few reasons. Primarily, the battle slowed the British forces attempting to invade Noth Carolina. The resulting casualties were 110 killed and 220 wounded British soldiers, as opposed to 12 killed and 60 wounded American soldiers. In addition, more than 500 British surrendered in the aftermath. Lastly, this substantial victory encouraged many more men to join the Continental army. The Battle of Cowpens is considered to be a large turning point in the American Revolution.
