Description:

After the humiliation that Samson inflicted in the Philistines in Judges 16, Samuel picks up the mantle of Judge in Israel from Samson.

He leads a conversion of the people (1 Sam 7/3) after which he orders the warriors to gather at Mizpeh. He invokes Yahweh's blessing and the Philistines responded by gathering their army to Mizpeh for battle.

In short, they were soundly defeated by Israel and 1 Sam 7/13 indicated the end of the Philistine domination over Israel.

We are informed in 1 Sam 7/15 onwards about Samuels judgeship over Israel for the rest of his life, running a circuit between Bethel, Gilgal, Mizpeh and Ramah, where he lived.
