1 janv. 1849 - 1849 Famous Abolishionists

Description:

Harriet Tubman is significant because she was the conductor of the underground railroad. She conducted a "railroad" where runaway slaves could hide in hidden passages or places in homes and move amongst these safe spaces until they were to their destination. Harriet Tubman fought to abolish slavery and for women's rights.

Frederick Douglass published an anti-slavery newspaper. He was born a slave but then escaped to New York.

Harriet Brecher Stow published Uncle Toms's Cabin in 1852. This brought national attention to the evils of slavery.
