It was more efficient than wind powered boats and traveled faster.
Transportation and trade increased also increased with roads,canals, and railroads.
Canals-man made waterways. Ex- Erie canal.
National Road-constructed with tax money from protective tariffs from east to west. Helped the north, frustrated the south.
Railroads:
By 1860 the railroad mileage was over 30000 miles.
